BARBARA W. NICHOLS (Perkins), 88 went to be with the Lord peacefully with family and friends at her side Tuesday, May 3, 2016. She was born in Atlanta, GA. Barbara grew up in Wilmington DE, graduated from PS DuPont High School, where she was president of the Girls Leader Corps; she married and settled in Newark. Barbara's life was a study in faith, family and service to Our Lord Jesus Christ. She was first a mother, homemaker, business woman in the family business, after her children were grown she went to college and graduated from Del-Tech as a LPN. She was a Girl Scout Leader served as Chairperson of Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council. As a nurse she worked for Christiana Care on the Oncology floor, she provided coverage to nursing homes and was a private nurse. She served as treasurer of DE Assoc. of LPN's, and delivered for Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 yrs., James E. Nichols; father John E. Perkins his wife Jessie; mother Eva Caroline Scott Perkins; sisters Martha Millicent "Mitzi" Mackey husband Jack, sister Sandra Holbrook husband Tom, son-in-law Jack DeFanti; and beloved cousin Russell LeMay.

Barbara is survived by three daughters and one son, Dorothy Nichols, Jean DeFanti, Stephen Nichols wife Charlene, Frankie Mayo husband Mathew, seven grandchildren James Thorpe, Lisa Nichols, Jaclyn Megginson (Tim), Stephen Nichols (Brenda), Christopher Tomlinson (Kimberly), Olivia King, (Steven) and Devin Mayo, ten great-grandchildren, cousins Dorothy Allison, Harriet Nichols-Windsor and Gaye Lyons and a granddaughter-in-law Lizanne Viera.

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held at Beeson Funeral Home 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 4:00 p.m., family and friends are invited for visitation at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend interment, Monday, May 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave, Wilmington, DE. Barbara's family would like to thank the staff of Cadia Broadmeadow in Middletown, DE for their care and compassion for their Mother, the best Mom ever.
