Charles Henry Bunty, 93, of Bear, DE passed away peacefully on November 6, 2106 at Christiana Hospital. "Charlie" was born in Secane, PA to Emanuel and Ruth Bunty (nee Enniss) in 1922. He was the quarterback at Glen-Nor High School during the extraordinary 1940 season, where he led the team to an unprecedented victory – they were neither defeated, nor scored upon, nor tied. Following his 1941 high school graduation, he went on to serve his country with distinction in World War II as a combat engineer throughout the European Theatre in the 498th Engineer Heavy Truck Company.
For more than three decades, Charlie worked for Westinghouse in Lester, PA as a Systems Analyst. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree, a B.S. in Business Administration, from Penn Morton College in Chester, PA in 1969. Since retiring in 1982, Charlie traveled the world, taking particular interest in cruising the Caribbean with his wife and family. He was a collector, a reader, and a hobbyist. He enjoyed boating, crabbing, and gardening.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, June Bunty (nee Kerstetter). He leaves his fond memories to be cherished by his daughter, Karen Palmer (nee Bunty) and son-in-law, Curt Palmer of Bear, and his grandchildren, Melissa Taylor (nee Ruggeri) of Fayetteville, AR, and Nicholas Ruggeri of Bear. Charming, clever, a shining example, fun-loving, full of witty humor, Charlie, with his booming laugh and penetrating blue eyes, will forever live in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held at Beeson Funeral Home, 2053 Pulaski Highway, Newark at 11:00 am on November 11, 2016 where friends may call beginning at 10:00 am.
