Love Emblem

Gene Broderick passed away recently at age 69 after a long battle with illness. She was born Gene LeCompte in Philadelphia to her mother Gene August and her father Robert. She graduated from Delhaas High School in Bristol PA., and over her full life, she traveled to many places, waited tables, worked at a carnival, clerked at a record store, played in folk bands, saw pretty much every great rock-n-roll band between 1964-72, and taught craft classes for over 25 years. She eventually served as the Director of Senior Services at the DeLaWarr Senior Center in New Castle until her retirement.

Gene enjoyed painting, knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, and every other craft hobby that ever existed. She was also apparently an outstanding cook but her sons had terrible palates and were regrettably never able to realize this. She made friends easily and hosted probably hundreds of craft parties over the years. She raised two sons that have very good lives and she especially enjoyed spending time with her beloved granddaughter. She also loved to talk. Boy, did she love to talk.

She is survived by her husband Gary, whom she married in 1974, her sons Daniel and Joseph, her granddaughter Savannah, and her grandson Sebastian. She is also survived by six younger brothers and sisters: Larry, Robert, Diane, Susie, Jerry, and Lee, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also made exactly one million friends in her lifetime.

All of those friends and anyone else who has ever known her is invited to celebrate her life with us on Monday June 27th 2016 at 11 AM at Beeson Funeral Home 2053 Pulaski Hwy, Newark DE 19702. The visitation will begin at 10 AM at Beeson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the DeLaWarr Senior Center at Rose Hill Community Center, 19 Lambson Lane, New Castle, DE 19720.
