J. Alton Hampton, age 80, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 . He was born in Wilson, North Carolina, but spent most of his life in Newark, Delaware.

Al was a devoted husband to his wife, Elaine Kessel Hampton, for 56 years and a loving and supportive father to their son, Scott Allen Hampton, currently a missionary serving in Tanzania, East Africa with his wife, Susie Entwistle Hampton and grandsons, Kieran, Kyle, and Kaedon. Also surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Rod and Debbie Hampton and niece, Julie of
Hockessin, Delaware, and two sisters-in-law who he considered more as sisters; Marilyn Kessel Holton and Sharon Kessel Michaels, both of the Poconos, Pennsylvania. He was also "Uncle Al" to numerous other nieces and nephews.

He retired from Delmarva Power Co. in 1993 after working for 32 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Hockessin, Delaware.

Al's passions, other than his faith in the Lord and his family, were Duke Basketball and Cincinnati Reds. He was also an avid collector of most every Donald Duck memorabilia that was ever created. · · · ·

A memorial service will be scheduled when Al's son and family return from Africa. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church or Africa inland Mission.
